I choose to look at reality TV. and why do I watch it. I'm a 35 year old male who is very busy and has a lot going on in life, but I make sure I get my realty TV. in each and every week. I have been watching reality TV. Ever since the 1st Real World and then the 1st Survivor, I was hooked on reality TV. I have always been into documentaries and so the reality TV. was as close to documentaries in some cases on TV. The VH1 realty shows with famous or past famous people are the ones I love to watch the most. There is so much going on from past stars in rehab, living together, dating each other, and more and I just have to watch. I also like some of the cash prize shows such as Charm School, I Love Money, Top Model, and there is so many more.
The VH1 reality shows on the weekend are a must see TV. for me and other parts of my family. In the winter time I like to watch some football, but with being so busy I miss a lot of the games. When it comes to the night VH1 shows I have to have all work and play done in time to watch the reality shows for the next few hours. What is more horrible then me watching these shows is that after I watch the shows for 2 straight hours, then I watch the same shows over again for the next 2 hours. I'm watching these shows for 4 straight hours, this is just in case I was on the computer or something I may have missed something in the earlier shows. If this doesn't make me weird enough during the weeknights or mornings and I'm flipping through the TV, if I see the reality shows on again I will stop and watch. So there is sometimes when I watch a reality show in a week it may be 2,3,4, or even 5 times. It is the real life or just the comedy of it all that keeps me enthralled, I don't know?
If Mini-Me is not naked throwing up in a corner on his motor chair, or Peter Brady is not getting married to his 20 year old farting model girl it is not a Sunday night for me. I don't think I could get any sleep Sunday night if I didn't see Flavor-Flav making out with Sly Stallone's ex- Bridget Neilson, or crazy 20 something year old people living, fighting, partying, and spiting on each other while trying to win some money.
I think that the various reality series are also entertaining. For me, I'm not sure if it is the entertainment or the close connection that you feel with the individuals. Reality Tv does very well at getting my attention. It is amazing how much time people devote to weekly television watching. The only problem with reality TV is that they record 24 hours day, seven days a week, yet, we only see thirty minutes of the best clips that are picked by the producers. Does reality TV actually present a true likeness of the what happens?
I guess I missed the boat when it comes to reality tv. I don't watch any of it, and can't understand why anyone would. I base my dislike for it only on commercials that I have seen. But obviously I am in the minority. There is a reality show on every channel - it seems on any given hour of the day. My biggest fear is that these shows will replace actual dramas and comedies that take me away from my mundane - sometimes stressful life. I think the appeal of these programs is that they show that someone else's life is worse than yours!
